Most people dream of travelling, but only some of them travel.
Many complain that they can’t travel because of kids, a mortgage, a demanding job or lack of money.
On the other hand, we have met many people with kids, mortgages, demanding jobs or lack of money who travel.
What’s the difference between them?
The attitude.
These are our five reasons why it’s not a good idea to keep postponing your travel plans:
Priorities
We all make our choices, and we have different priorities.
If you aren’t interested in travelling, that’s completely fine. People enjoy different things.
Travelling, like anything else, is not for everyone.
But if you dream of exploring the world, think again.
Even if you have different priorities (family, career, etc.), you don’t have to give up on travelling.
You don’t have to sell everything and become a digital nomad.
It’s about making travel a part of your life, even just a tiny part.
It is about finding the balance that makes you happy.
Money
If you think you can’t afford to travel now, there is no guarantee that your financial situation will improve later in life.
You might earn or save more money, but you will probably have more responsibilities, which will only increase your expenses.
It might get even harder to spare some money or time for travelling.
The good news is that there are many ways to save money for travelling and travel on a limited budget.
Confidence
Confidence often goes down with age, especially if you don’t have any previous experience.
If you don’t have the guts to travel in your twenties or thirties, it won’t get any better when you get older.
We also get more worried and less comfortable with the unknown with age.
This might stop us from doing things we want.
We know many people in their forties or fifties who regret that they didn’t travel when they were younger. Now it’s much harder for them to start.
If you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed, try to get some help.
Take action and talk to someone experienced (a travel agent, friend, blogger, etc.).
Health
Let’s face it β health usually doesn’t get better with age.
What’s the point of postponing your travel plans till you retire, when you might not be fit enough to travel then?
Increasing health-related expenses might also cut your budget significantly.
Also, travel insurance is more expensive for older people.
It might even be hard to get it at all if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.
Our energy levels go down too.
We get tired more quickly, and the idea of exploring the world might not be as tempting as before.
We aren’t saying that you can’t travel when you get older.
Of course, you can, but your options might be limited, and you may not be able to do everything you want.
The World Changes Fast
The site you would like to see might not be there in a few years, or it can be in a significantly worse condition.
Large volumes of visitors have a negative impact, especially on nature.
For example, the Great Barrier Reef’s corals are slowly being damaged, which is why they will look different in a few years.
With more people travelling, popular places get busier, and finding anything ‘off the beaten track’ is harder.
The political situation can change or become unstable.
Security issues might arise.
However, it’s fair to say that places that aren’t safe now might become ok to travel to in a few years.
Our thoughts
We believe that you can have it all if you want.
You can travel with a full-time job, a mortgage, kids or limited resources.
You only have to make an effort and dedicate some of your money and time to travelling.
Travel doesn’t have to be expensive at all.
There are many cheap options, like a road trip in your own country or flying with budget airlines.
And it’s not just about you β you can motivate other people to do things they have been dreaming about.
Give it a try, and start slow.
You will see the positive effects of travel on your life shortly.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Take this moment and make it perfect.
